SkyRidge owner Teresa Hyatt is also the owner of TCH Design Interiors—an interior design firm focusing on creating spaces that aren’t just beautiful, but livable. After she and her husband, Dick, recently showcased their home in a photoshoot to help illustrate the possibilities in our mountain resort community, Teresa answered a few questions about her SkyRidge experience.
What makes the homesites at SkyRidge special?
Views, views, and views! I believe SkyRidge offers the best scenery in the Park City/Deer Valley/Heber Valley area. You can’t get these views of both the Jordanelle and Deer Valley anywhere else—and thanks to the ease of driving from the airport, you don’t even have to deal with Park City traffic to get here.
What do you love most about your home?
The window locations and how each room captures a view of the water or Deer Valley; these windows have created our artwork! We also like how you can move from one room to another seamlessly. We wanted a Mountain Modern look, but I worked hard to add warm character as well.
What is one design touch in your home that makes you smile every time you see it?
I can’t name just one. There’s the use of all pendant drop light fixtures that serve as sculpture/art pieces, defining each space; the inset heat registers in the tile/wood flooring; the slab backsplash behind the kitchen hood; and the mirror bar wall on the lower level, which reflects the beauty of the mountain range.
What are your inspirations when it comes to design? What is your design approach?
The land surrounding each home inspires me—I always start my design process by walking the lot and seeing the land. You need to work off the colors/feel of the land to ensure the exterior components are complementary. Then, you work those exterior elements into the interior (such as steel, wood, and stone) to bring the outside in and create a seamless design.
How did your homesite inform your design choices?
Our site had fantastic potential for amazing views, so we worked directly with our architect to ensure we captured them. That informed everything from how we placed the home to the location of the driveway to the front door. It’s an upward lot, and we wanted to create a “wow” moment from the very first step into our home.
Which is more challenging? Designing your own home or designing for clients?
Designing your own home is the most challenging! As a designer, you know there are thousands of choices—and they are constantly changing with the seasons. When it comes time to provide choices to clients, I have narrowed the selections based on my deep understanding of each client’s preferences and objectives. But when it’s your own home, it’s your baby—and it can be much more difficult to make those decisions for yourself.
What would you tell someone considering a move to SkyRidge?
My husband and I have been coming to Park City for the last 20 years; we had a ski-in/ski-out condo in Park City. While we made the decision to retire here long ago, we looked for years at the beautiful communities that surround the city and nothing truly spoke to us. We wanted views of both the mountains and the water, and most important, a location close to a ski resort. But we also wanted a clubhouse and amenities that would help us connect with neighbors. SkyRidge is the only place we’ve seen that offers it all—and I tell everyone considering Park City that there’s nothing else like this setting and community.
